Explosion proof lighting is not necessarily the same as hazardous area Lighting. These types of lights must be able to contain any explosion originating from within its housing to prevent ignition of vapors, gasses, dust or fibers in the area surrounding it.
Explosion proof lighting comes in a variety of lighting types such as LED, high-intensity discharge (HID), fluorescent, & incandescent. Most of the newer Explosion Proof lights are LED types for use in explosive environments for general lighting purposes. Many Explosion proof lighting are also used for portable lighting applications such as petroleum cell cleaning areas. HID explosion proof searchlights are used where greater lumen output is required and farther throw.
