What are the Benefits of LED, HID, and Hand Searchlights?

Today, there is many new energy-efficient lighting with quickly developing technologies. They offer radiant light while saving you money on your monthly energy bill.

Handheld and HID lights and Led searchlights have a variety of uses. What are the major benefits of these lighting options? What are the differences and how do they function?

Check out this useful guide to learn more.

LED

LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes. Unlike incandescent bulbs, which use a filament, the benefits of LED lights lie in their ability to create light by fueling electrons.

LED bulbs are semiconductors and consist of material that can positively and negatively charge their parts. Once the electrons are charged and begin to flow between the positive and negative, you have radiating light.

Benefits of LED

One of the major benefits of LED light bulbs is that they are constantly improving. Currently, they emit around 100 lumens and higher. Furthermore, they are sturdy light bulbs. They don’t have an electrode or filament so they are more shock and vibration resistant.

They have a much higher lifetime than those of HIDs, at 50,000 hours and over. LED light bulbs are rated well over 100,000 hours.

Though they aren’t quite as temperature resistant as the HID option, they do turn on instantly in your lamps and require no warm-up time. LEDs can create omnidirectional light without flickering.

HID

HID stands for High-Intensity Discharge Light Bulbs. HID’s benefits are different than those of LED. They are a class of gas-discharge arc lamps that create light by transmitting a different electrical current between electrodes and an ionized gas.

From there, the light radiates from the arc when those electronics can charge and orbit through interaction with said ionized gas.

These components are sealed inside a glass quartz capsule and usually use extra gas to create a variety of different lights.

Benefits

HIDs also use sodium, mercury, and metal halide as well. HIDs emit 11 lumens but are usually quite fragile as they have moving parts. However, they have a decent lifespan of 15,000 to 25,000 hours.

Their lumen depreciation is moderately high, but one benefit is that it operates in -40 degrees Fahrenheit, where LEDs only function up to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

They require a little warm-up time of about 5-10 minutes, but the light radiates beautifully in all directions. Their color rendering is anywhere from 5-93 CRI, which is a great benefit to using HID light bulbs.

The cost is much lower as well but may require more re-lamping.

Hand Searchlights

In 2017, it’s essential to prepare for any disaster. Regardless of the bulb you go with, you should always have a few hand searchlights stocked in your basement. Paired with LED light bulbs, these lamps can take you well into the storm on a search and rescue mission. Their industrial uses are many as well.

Benefits

Handheld Led searchlights have many benefits. If the power goes out or you need to find a lost one during the dark hours, you’ll have an energy efficient handheld option that will offer you hours of light.

They also come in many sizes now and you can store them in your vehicle for emergencies as well. They are light and easy to carry about.

Additionally,  high-powered, handheld searchlights are perfect for law enforcement, search and rescue, border patrol, military and industrial users to light targets that flashlights cannot illuminate.
